Top Welsh Talent in Toronto
Canadian Music Week 2016
Apr 28 2016
Seven acts from Wales will be performing as Canadian Music Week (CMW) takes over the city of Toronto from 2-8 May 2016. CMW is one of the biggest events in North America focusing on the business of music; the festival has hundreds of bands at more than 40 live music venues in Toronto.
Each year CMW has a country focus and in 2016, the United Kingdom and Ireland will be receiving special attention; this is the first time in 16 years that they have had a spotlight.
Llanelli locals Cut Ribbons, indie-rockers The Undivided, Chepstow based solo artist Violet Skies, acoustic singer-songwriter Dan Bettridge, the psychedelic trio HMS Morris, Pontypridd band The People The Poet, and the pop-soul four-piece Peasant's King will all be showcasing their talents.
Wales Arts International has made support available for the musicians to attend and to present music from Wales, under the Cerdd Cymru : Music Wales brand.
The visit to Canada follows hot on the heels of successful promotion of Welsh music internationally at South by South West (SXSW) in Austin, Texas in March and at Folk Alliance International in February 2016.
Nicola Morgan, Head of Wales Arts International said: "We know we’ve got a wealth of talent in Wales but it’s important that the rest of the world get the chance to hear our amazing musicians."
"There will be over 3,000 music industry professionals from all around the world at this event including record labels, booking agents and festival organizers, so it’s a great opportunity for us to promote music from Wales and hopefully provide some career-changing opportunities for them."
Wales Arts International is a partnership between Arts Council of Wales and British Council and is working in partnership with AIM (Association of Independent Music), BPI (British Phonographic Industry) and UK Trade & Investment on a music mission to CMW.
